A Message from Mr. Jason McElroy, MWHS Principal

Dear Monroe-Woodbury High School Families,

We quickly went from the first day of school to our second month, with our first-quarter midpoint right around the corner on Friday, October 9!

The transition from summer back to school can be an adjustment for students, families, and staff, but I am proud of how quickly our MWHS community settled into the rhythm of the new school year. I want to thank all of the parents and families who joined us for our 26/27 Open House. For those who were unable to attend, you can find some of the information shared that evening below.

As we continue to settle into the 26/27 school year, I ask that our families continue to partner with us in supporting student success. Two of the most important things you can do are encourage regular attendance and check your student’s PowerSchool Portal frequently.

Most importantly, please know that you have a team here at MWHS that is ready to support you and your student. When questions, challenges, or concerns arise, please reach out.

Thank you for your continued partnership and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together this year!

Jason McElroy
Principal
Monroe-Woodbury High School

Free Meals - All Students 2026-2027 School Year Reminder

All students enrolled at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch in school at no charge to your household each day of the  2026-2027   school year.

All students will be able to participate in these meal programs on the first day of school without having to pay a fee or submit an application. All schools provide a breakfast program for students upon entry into school and a lunch program for students in the cafeteria.

School meal programs offer breakfast and lunch meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards, aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and are planned with student preferences in mind. If packing food from home, students can add to their home brought lunch at no cost by choosing at least three of the five items offered, (e.g., low fat milk, proteins, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits), one of which must be a vegetable or fruit. We invite students to show their support for their school food service program through participation.

The Spotlight

MWHS Open House

On Thursday, September 17, Monroe-Woodbury High School welcomed families to our 2026–27 Open House! Families had the opportunity to connect with teachers, learn about their children’s courses and experiences, and explore the many opportunities available in and outside of the building.

A big thank you to our Food Services team, club students and advisors, county support agencies, and our faculty and staff for welcoming and informing our families.

We appreciate everyone who helped make the evening a success!

Student Activities are starting off strong at MWHS!

Kids Changing the World Volunteering during September

Although school has been in session for less than a month, that hasn't stopped members from the Kids Changing the World (KCW) club from volunteering their time with the Beautiful People Organization. Seen here are two KCW members that began volunteering shortly after school started to help special needs kids participate in an adaptive cheer program.

Clubs/Activities Fair

A big thank you to all of our students and club advisors who participated in the 2026 Open House Club Fair! We appreciate the enthusiasm, creativity, and time that went into the amazing club setups. Your energy helped showcase the many opportunities available to our Crusaders and made the evening a great success!

Growing Community: The MWHS Community Garden Renewal Project

The Monroe-Woodbury High School Interact Club, in collaboration with the Environmental Justice Club, National Art Honor Society, Art Guild, and Expanding Horizons Book Club, is bringing new life and a whole lot of color to our school’s community garden!

Through this collaborative service-learning project, students are working together to refurbish and reimagine the community garden as a vibrant space for growing, creating, and connecting. On September 29, students constructed 10 raised garden boxes, a composting station, and a garden shed, transforming practical structures into colorful works of student-created art, and in two weeks, we will have a second collaboration, this time with the Expanding Horizons Book Club to paint bricks to look like our students’ favorite books.

This project is about more than building boxes and painting boards. It is an opportunity for students to explore what happens when service, environmental responsibility, and creativity come together. Members of the Environmental Justice Club are helping students consider sustainability and responsible stewardship of our shared environment, while members of the National Art Honor Society, Art Guild, and Expanding Horizons Book Club are using their artistic talents to transform the garden structures into welcoming and inspiring pieces of public art.

The Interact Club, guided by the Rotary motto “Service Above Self,” is helping lead the project as an example of what can happen when students from different organizations work toward a common purpose and how planting the seeds of environmental stewardship will create a growth on consciousness intersecting through various groups of students.

Stay tuned for before and after pictures and videos this spring as well as an invitation to our grand opening garden party!

SADD News!😉

SADD President, Lidia Zarate Gonzalez, and SADD Vice-President, Isabella Riva-Gonzalez, both attended The SADD National Leadership Summit in Cleveland, Ohio from June 28 to July 2. The theme of the summit was "Back to '81," celebrating the organization's roots and founding year while focusing on leadership skills and peer-to-peer engagement through a mobility safety lens.

National SADD Day: On September 18, MWHS students celebrated 45 years of SADD with a "Back to '81" Spirit Day. Students took part in signing the Contract for Life and writing messages on the 45 Reasons banner. 80's music played as students took photos in the 80's photo booth and shared 80's themed candy as they turned back the clock to protect their future.

A big thank you to Mrs. Martucci and our SADD members for all they do for our school community!
